I originally found this survey on Amber’s blog The Mile Long Book Shelf. This survey is from The Perpetuel Page Turner. I like doing surveys especially after the Fairytale Survey, so her is the A-z Book Survey.

I don’t have a Goodreads, but looking at my bookshelf I can definitely say Rick Riordan. He has the Percy Jackson series (5), Heroes of Olympus (4/5 published), The Kane Chronicles (3), and some of the companion books. So hehhe…

 

Best Sequel Ever:

The best sequel ever… Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. I love the angst and the pent up tightness that we got from it.

Currently Reading:

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain for summer reading

 

Drink of Choice While Reading:

Water or tea, but I don't usually drink anything at all while read

 

E-reader or Physical Book?

Physical book, though e-readers are useful because older books are free on my 3rd edition kindle (don't laugh it still works)

 

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:

Well, I'm still not in high school but there are a lot of datable characters. The most realistic (hot guys that are not insane killers- me realizing most of my book character crushes are that) .... that leaves very few choices... Hmmm... Probably I would have had a crush on Harry Potter *blushes*

The Ring & the Crown by Melissa De La Cruz- I don’t know why I didn’t even love it

My book cases are built into my wall, but of my own books about two shelves. In my house about 7 book cases

 

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:

I reads a lot of books multiple times if I'm really anxious about a sequel but I reread The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan some many times that I almost memorized it

 

Preferred Place To Read:

Anywhere that I can read, that's what is great about reading you can do it just about anywhere. I personally love reading on my bed though.

 

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:
When people say impossible, they usually mean improbable"- Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo The quote is by Nikolai a prince and privateer; it is inspiring because it tell you not be satisfied with what anybody tells you and to test the limits till there are no limits.

 

Reading Regret:

I regret not being able to stick with classics because I just get so frustrated with the language

I don't have any series I HAVE to finish but it would be nice to read the Lux Books by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Leigh Badugo- I've already convinced three people to read it in about a month which is a record for someone who never fangirls about books (besides the Grisha Trilogy) in real life

 

Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:

 

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers. I NEED that book for my life. I adore how Robin balances romance, killing and political rivalries.

 

Worst Bookish Habit:

1. Not getting library receipts and forgetting to return them

2. Reading in the bathroom (*blushes*) Thank the Lord that library books have plastic covers

3. Forgetting a bookmark and expecting myself to remember the page number which never happens

Books with Tea & Cake

This list is originally from Feed Me Books Now. Ruby decided to make a list of books great with tea and cake and I decided why not suggest a few books to the tea party?

1) Long books – e.g. The Goldfinch

If a book goes beyond the 600 page mark, you're going to need something to keep you going… right ?...

Oooo long books area rarity now it seems… Let’s see Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix is too much action for cake and tea or you end up drooling, but Dreams of Gods & Monsters is perfect for that stuff, though I have just started City of Heavenly Fire which seems to be tea worthy.

2) Childhood favourites – e.g. Harry Potter

There's nothing like settling down with your well-read, dog-eared copy of your favourite childhood book, is there? Although perhaps the added comfort of a cup of tea could make things marginally better… ;)

Percy Jackson & the Olympians (the entire 5 books) - dry humor, Greek gods, well worn, & perfect with tea and cake. You want to see a well-read book see my copy of The Lightning Thief.

3) Austen – e.g. Emma

There's no better way to read one of Austen's trademark social commentaries than with a cup of tea and ridiculously rich slice of cake.

The only Austen book I’ve read is Pride & Prejudice, but tis perfect with British snacks to settle down and reread the romance soap operaish book.

4) Fairytales – e.g. Grimms' Fairytales

Tea and cake is not just a suggestion for when reading fairytales… it's mandatory.

Grimms’ Fairytale for sure too, the medieval tales and dark forests just have you drinking gallons tea and eating a bit too much cake than healthy.

5) Detective novels – e.g. Agatha Christie

When the whodunnit conundrum gets too complicated, sometimes it's best to take a tea break before the mystery continues… :)

The most famous detective of them all- Sherlock Holmes’ Hound of the Baskerville by Lord Connan Arthur Doyle is great with British necessities. The fog and mystery is perfect to ponder over a little snack.

6) Gothic novels – e.g. Wuthering Heights

Picture the scene: roaring fire, steaming cup of tea at your side, slice of cake at the ready, an eerie tale awaiting. What's not to love, eh?

Gothic novel… I had to look this one up-Gothic novel, European Romantic, pseudomedieval fiction having a prevailing atmosphere of mystery and terror (Encyclopedia Britannica) my thought immediately went to older British novels, but then I remember that I have yet to read them so what better book then Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Hollow City with the eeriness and gloominess it has, accentuated by the vintage pictures it uses (plus formatting that makes it look 1920s).

7) Graphic novels – e.g. Scott Pilgrim

As long as you don't get crumbs across the gorgeous drawings, I can't see anything better than flicking through a graphic novel and helping yourself to cake as you go.

I don’t read a lot of graphic novels, but recently my favorite book with art is The Shadowhunter’s Codex. The drawings were phenomenal and I remember drinking a lot of tea during this time as it was especially inspiring with written in comments by the characters from The Mortal Instruments.

8) Coming-of-age tales – e.g. The Catcher in the Rye

Coming-of-age tales are often full of angst (let's be honest), so what better to cheer you up from all the doom and gloom than a cuppa?

Coming of age… I scratch my head trying to find a book that I’ve read like that… hmm aren’t almost are YA books about coming of age…uhhh… how about The Girl with Borrowed Wings had a bunch of emotions just waiting for bucket load of comfort food cake and warm cozy tea

                                                                                                           

9) Inherently British books – e.g. James Bond

To be patriotic?

Well I’m not British, but a citizen of the Commonwealth, but to be inherently British (can you use two buts in a sentence?)- it must be world famous, older & British. I’ve read recent British novels, but older ones I have to catch up on, but The Scarlet Pimpernel comes to mind with tradition of having to prove British superiority over the French and a tragic romance.

10) ALL BOOKS. Because what's better than tea, cake and words?!

Agreed. Think of the tune All You Need Is Love and now substitute Love with tea, cake, & words

The Fairytale Survey

Is there are book you lie about, because you feel ashamed for liking it?

Well I read The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer a while and for the longest time, I was embarrassed that I actually liked it because I read it in the fifth grade and I heard all the crap about it, but not anymore!

Beauty and the beast – The girl who fell in love with personality.

Which book do you love that has a hideous cover?

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead- Angelina Jolie doesn’t work

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare- A shirtless dude with tattoos is how you get crap (in fact one of my guy friends was halfway into the book, but was too embarrassed to continue because of  Jace on the cover)

Snow white – Hunted down for her beauty.

Do you ever buy a book based on the cover alone and if so, what is the last one?

Well, the last book I picked up for the cover was the Valkyrie Rising (it’s from the library), but I was looking through a list of YA books in Europe and it looked cool.

Sleeping beauty – Cursed to sleep, awakened by true loves kiss.

 What is your favorite book couple?

Darkling and Alina (they’re technically not a couple, but wait till Ruin and Rising comes out) from Shadow and Bone/Siege and Storm (Grisha Trilogy) by Leigh Bardugo they are the perfect example of light meets dark

Warner and Juliette from Ignite Me {Review}/Unravel Me/Shatter Me  by Tahreh Mafi- You never know when the author decides to make an  unlikely love triangles end up

Little Mermaid – Gave up on her old life for love.

Do you ever branch out to new genres or do you like to stick with the ones you know and love? If you try new things out, what is the latest book?

I usually stick with what I love- historical fiction/fantasy sci-fi/thrillers. My most recent branching out was reading What I Eat Around the World in 80 Diets by Faith Menzel & Faith D’Aluisio, which is about what different people around the world eat in one day, very coffee table, but a good read.

  

Cinderella – Who lost her shoe after midnight.

What is the last book that made you stay up all night?

The Gathering Storm {Review} by Robin Bridges, I stayed up till about 11:30 pm (I rarely stay up later than that) reading about evil vampires and princes.

Rapunzel – locked up in a tower.

What are the worst books you’ve read last month?

Ohh tough. Most books I don’t like I don’t continue reading, but the worst book I’ve read is probably I am Rembrandt’s Daughter {Review}by Lynn Cullen. I didn’t find it terrible, but I’ve just read so many good books this past month.

What is the latest book treasure/gem you found?

The best book that I found by chance just by skimming shelves not from web sources was The Girl with Borrowed Wings  {Review} by Rinsai Rossetti. I was just browsing at library and bam a good book.

Alice in Wonderland – The girl who fell through a rabbit’s hole. 

Which book made you really feel like you landed in another world?

Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers- you feel like you’re in a world of old gods and Britanny

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling-  some of the best fantasy books ever written

Legend {Review} by Marie Lu-  wins for dystopian because of so much world building

East of the sun and west of the moon – where a girl embarks on a journey to save her love.

Who is one of your favorite kick-ass heroines?

Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead- She just wants to live on the edge after ‘dying’, I personally like her because she knows what she wants

Sydney Sage from Bloodlines by Richelle Mead- She’s a close genius and still has the guts to go after Adrian Ivashkov

June from Legend  {Review} by Marie Lu- She takes her  intelligence for a mostly nonviolent approach to the war and realizes that she can move on from Day

Ismae from Grave Mercy b Robin LaFevers- Killer, she just thinks like me plus I’m such a romantic and Duval is cool

Extra-Karou from Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor and Annabeth from Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan and Hermione from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

What is a book you thought you would hate, but end up loving?

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen- it was terribly dull at the beginning but got better

Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling- first chapter was really weird

Hansel and Gretel – left alone in the woods and captured by a witch.

Which duo (sister/sister, brother/sister) is your favorite and why?

Kate, Michael & Emma from The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens- They just care so much about each other that it touches you to see their relationship develop with other character after depending on each other for years

Little Red Riding Hood – almost eaten by a wolf dressed as her grandmother.

What book disappointed you after falling in love with the cover and blurb?

The Blessed  by Tonya Hurley- I will write a review for that soon, but the book was just all over the place

Rumpelstilskin – nobody knows his name.

Which book do you love that doesn’t get enough attention?

Does Shadow and Bone count? Shadow and Bone by Liegh Bardugo- I know online a lot of people have read it, but in real life I don’t know anybody who has read them along with Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor. A real answer though is Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
